Crofton Juniors battled hard to win tough game against a strong and physical Yorkshire amateurs team.

Crofton Juniors battled hard to win tough game against a strong and physical Yorkshire amateurs team.

The game started at a very fast pace with early chances for both teams forcing Jamie Mayes in to some good early saves. The deadlock was broken when Hayden Swift flicked the ball over the top for Thomas Pedley to race onto and slot into the bottom corner. Crofton continued to get half chances but failed to increase the scoring.

Yorkshire amateurs got back into the game but struggled to break through the solid Crofton defence with the defence of Jack Wade, Ben Huskins and (Bomber) Seth Grimes /Thomas holding out.

The second half started in a similar fashion and Yorkshire amateurs finally latched on to a chance and finished well to make it 1-1. The Crofton lads showed what they are made of in the second half and despite having no subs the team fought for every ball and challenge with Harry Dyson and Tyler Garside winning the ball in midfield but it looked like it wouldn't be our day when Hayden shot wide after the ball was put through from midfield.

The winner finally came in a similar fashion when the ball was played through by Harry to Hayden again this time he smashed it past the keeper to make it 2-1.

In the final 15 minutes Crofton dug in with and the team tried to put Bomber through but it was in defence again where the game was won with every player putting in a huge effort on tired legs. Toby Allen ran the legs off Yorkshire left full back and it provided some much needed relief from defending. Yorkshire kept trying to get behind our defence but every ball was cut out with every player getting back to help out the defence.

The whistle finally came and the match ended 2-1.

A massive well done to all the lads and we could not give a man of the match as it was a massive team effort all round.
